People in modern Kyoto do not speak like maiko characters in films all the time. Depending on age, relationship, and situation, they move naturally between Kyoto and Keihan forms, standard Japanese, and polite speech.

The Kyoto dialect uses the Keihan pitch-accent system. The reviewed ruby shows how written forms are read, but does not claim to reproduce a native speaker's pitch pattern; compare real local speech when studying accent and sentence-final melody.
